Of course, we are plagued Met fans damned to never to derive any sort of enjoyment from our favorite professional baseball team. Not us, we are doomed for a lifetime of let downs and not just any old let down. Let downs of enormous proportions. What will it take to reverse these misfortunes? If had those answers, I would certainly present them. However, there is nothing else we can do but grin and bear it.
Missed opportunities were abundant and now the Mets are in a Wild Card tie with the Brewers and in second place. They came into the game with a 72%+ chance of making the playoffs and had a 5-1 lead only to lose by three runs and end up with a 54%+ chance of making the playoffs.
Ticklish? Yeah, I think it would be safe to say things are ticklish and I think it is safe to say I watching the Mets last night was another poor allocation of my time. With Pedro up tonight and the Mets holding an open audition for Saturday's 2nd game, it is not exactly a a rosy outlook with a team that no one really wants to play coming to town this weekend and the team that knocked the Mets out of the playoffs last season.

The Mets will stay on WFAN and I guess that is good. There are no other stations with any sort of Met fan broadcasters in prominent roles.
Why must the Met fans not be allowed to boo? I am not a big boo person and have only booed for Roger Cedeno, but seriously. Last night I can forgive anyone with a temptation to boo.

Short rest for Johan? They don't need it. Some clutch hitting would have be fine and Johan cannot do that. This is on the offense to help this team make the playoffs and not Johan.
Evan Weiner is wrong. The Mets downsized and should have no problems filling their stadium and the Yankees will not have any issues whatsoever.
Ironic that the Twins might actually make the playoffs and the Mets might get left out, no?

Maybe a move to CitiField is needed to exorcise whatever crap is damning this team. But when the name of the new stadium rhymes oh so close to how this team has performed the last two years, makes you wonder if this crappy karma is just moving 100 feet beyond the center field bleachers.

I've been saying for a while now that this team's main problem is the offense. Delgado's slump hurt us last year and 1st half this year. Losing church and wrights lack of clutch hitting is what's killing them more recently. overall that late inning hitting sucks more than an a hooker on the point.

the pen is struggling and is killing us but shouldn't catch as much flak as they have. sanchez and heilman are hurt. smith and feliciano are overused. losing wagner also cuts the room for error.

Was at the game last night in 2nd row behind home plate. Killer seats to watch the debacle unfold. It was surreal going from the Delgado grand slam in which I felt the place go as berzerk as it ever has when I've been there to the slow fade disaster. Unreal. Everyone was absolutely disgusted when the shit went down in the 10th. It wasn't even people being mad or pissed, they were just dismissive disgusted. Horrible.

David kept on looking up into the stands from the dugout (before his disaster strikeout) pumping people up. It was very cool. But then when he went up to bat, he just looks SO stressed out with all the huge breaths. He totally freaks himself out when he gets in that position. He's acts like a boy still and not a man. And that is the problem. He needs to step up and do it when it counts. He doesn't do that.
Church has turned into a massive liability to this team. He looks absolutely lost at the plate. Not good.
Delgado is so friggin good. Still freaks me out. I hated him with a passion about 3 months ago. The 9 rbi Yankee game which I attended is where I think it all changed with him. He should be the MVP. I think his batting avg being 50 pts higher and leadership give him the edge over Howard. I don't know how you give an MVP to a guy hitting .230 with 400 strikeouts.

Omar needs to solidify the rotation beyond Johan, Pelfrey, and Maine. Ollie is someone they'll push for, but I'd be shocked to see them spend big money on anyone ... though I'd love Burnett (Yanks are getting him).
As far as the bullpen is concerned, there clearly needs to be changes. They need a closer, a set-up man, and they need to give Feliciano two tickets back to his homeland to bask in the sun and rest his 294-appearances-made arm.
Fuck I'm so disappointed right now. What a kick in the nuts.

Just because they had a slimmer lead going down the stretch this season as opposed to last season, does not mean that this was not a collapse.
And it isn't just one players fault. Wright has sucked it all year in big spots, but how quickly we forget just how truly dreadful Delgado was the entire first half of the season. How quickly we forget just how many games he cost them by not delivering in big spots.
Those games count too.
We all know how awful the pen was, so there's not much more to say there that already hasn't been said. So how bout Reyes not getting it done in September... again! Sure he was a bit more productive this year, but did he even get on base these last 3 games? Loved that 0-5 performance! Way to jump start the team, baby!
And speaking of guys not getting it done the entire first half of the season (going back to Delgado), where the fuck was Beltran most of the year? April through the beginning of August, this motherfucker was virtually invisible at the plate.
We can talk about Castillo, but why waste any more blog space?

So lemme get this straight: the manager gets the boot because the players whom the GM brought in failed to get the job done. Yet the GM not only gets to stick around, but he is presented with a 4-year extension as a gift for a job well done.
Huh. And while I really do like what Jerry has done since coming in as manager, he needs to go as well. He's been past of all of this. Whether or not anyone thinks he deserves the boot (and really he doesn't), it's about changing the entire culture of this loser franchise. In order to do this, many of the people involved and responsible for this mess over the last 3 seasons has to go.
That includes manager, coaches (except guys who were brought up from the minors mid-season), GM, assistant GM, scouts, and yes... players. And not just bums. Maybe it's time to take a long, hard look at 1 or two of the so-called "core" players. I don't wanna sound like Francesa. I don't think everyone has to go, but maybe it's not nuts to think that the Mets should at the very least, examine trade possibilities for guys like Wright, Beltran, and or Reyes.
I just think that something really drastic needs to be done here in order to shake up this flat, complacent team that has now failed in 3 consecutive seasons.
Sadly though, it's starting to look like the same old, same ole. Starting with bringing back the GM who built this mess, and the manager who has been part of this mess for the last 3 seasons.
