What's That Taste In Your Mouth

If you watched or listened to the game, that taste in your mouth would be a bit of puke.

E Chavez tripled to deep right.
C Beltran struck out swinging.
C Delgado grounded out to pitcher.
D Wright grounded out to pitcher.

When your big guys cannot get a lead off triple home, that pretty much sums it up. It was an ugly game in which the Mets outhit the Nationals eleven to eight and had five extra base hits while managing to get outscored 6-2. The Mets were also a little ugly in the field again and just did not get a good performance from Orlando Hernandez. They pretty much got owned today.

With yet another game down that the Mets have played some ugly baseball, you have to wonder if their heads are in it. Willie had this team tight from game one last year and seemed to have them tight from game one through four this year, but they regressed a bit since they and have been sloppy. They are good enough to play sloppy and win a lot of ballgames, but that's not exactly a good way to go through the season.

I am not sure what needs to be done to get these guys playing like they should be and it is quite possible they are just in a swoon and will work out of it any day now, but it is frustrating to watch a team of this skill level kind of sleep walk through games. They are 7-4 and sitting in a nice place now, but they cannot keep playing this way or else they are really going to give the Braves a shot at this division.

  • So we had a bit of a fantasy baseball disaster with ESPN's shitty league. They basically reset everything redrafted our teams and put in our opening day lineups and used their stats for our season up to the point they reset the league. Problem is, a lot of us had a few starters on the bench, guys on the DL that didn't even end up playing in the lineup, and were rotating starters that now have had their stats erased.

I know a lot of people do not want to play, but it is a long season and everyone's teams got affected. Some lower teams got bumped up and some higher teams got knocked down significantly, but I think things will even out in the end. Yes, it sucks, but there are about 150 more games to go. It is possible that it comes back to bite a team if it comes down to the wire, but there is not much we can do and everyone got screwed up with the exception of Benny's team who is now in first.

You should switch to CBS Sportsline. I was also in an ESPN league, and they still haven't fixed the issues with my roster. Their response has been about as effective as Oliver Perez's outing on Wednesday. They should at least kept the transaction logs and daily boxscores so that you could figure your stats out by yourself if you want. CBS lets you input your league and have the stats count retroactively. I don't work for CBS or own stock -- I just hate ESPN because of this.

Twice this season that the Mets have failed to get a runner in from third with no outs. Inexcusable.

Kind of wish that El Duque WAS throwing at Hill after the two homeruns. Listened to the game on radio on my way down from VT. Disappointing. Too many runners left in scoring position and what a slow lineup once you were past the top 5!

I'd just like to point out that Jose Reyes is currently tied for 3rd in the national league in walks.

You should see the tweaking going on at Metsblog about this same topic you point out as well as DG. it is totally inexcusable to not bring Endy home. Totally.

I hate ESPN's fantasy baseball - I use yahoo and have never had a problem.

Re the Mets funk, I'm not worried - I think as the weather gets warmer this team will heat up - they are too good not to hit. Not to blame the weather for their mediocre playing but i think it is a factor.

The Mets announcers pointed out that 4 times in the game the Mets had a man on 3rd with less than 2 outs and could not score. Why is this so? I would be interested in seeing what ideas are presented here. Could it be:

    1. They don’t hit well with pressure on them or

    2. They are not a contact hitting team or

    3. They are a group of guess hitters and if they guess wrong they look inept and the more they see a pitcher the more apt they will be to guess right or

    4. They are very streaky and when they’re in a funk they couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn or

    5. They feast on mediocrity and when pitchers bear down they have problems or

    6. They are not good situational hitters or

    7. There is no rational explanation it’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

I didn't know that happened with the ESPN league. That pretty much sucks, because I revamped my roster. The reason I didn't know is I was dealing with 3 1/2 inches of water in my basement. Sucks to be me right now.

I just want to say that I FINALLY saw my first baseball game on television while in Amsterdam this past week. Saw Dice-K vs King Felix in its entirity.
    I miss baseball!

And umm, yeah, whether or not ESPN fucked up, I still kick ass. I'm just meant to win, no matter what...

Glad you finally got to see a game Benny. This team is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

I'm going to give you a run this year, if I ever get out of my sorry assed basement!

Benny, I hope you're having fun in Amsterdam! Great city!

The Sand Gnots committed 10 errors tonight. No kidding. You can look it up. 12 runs scored against, two earned.
