Santana a Met!

Wow! How could so many people have been wrong?

{note the sarcasm...I actually know how so many people could have been wrong}

HELLS FUCKING YES.

Props to Omar for holding fast and getting this done at a price he could live with.

Hat Tip to Johan for clearly making this go thru.

WE LOVE YOU ALREADY.

Time to find some opening day tickets.

Well as I said yesterday, if the deal is the one we all expected - which is what the USA TODAY ARTICLE IS SAYING! - then Omar wins points yet again for brilliance. They manage to keep their best pitching prospect and best outfield prospect by waiting it out and not playing their hand too quickly. Would they have poneyed F-Mart up if they had too. Maybe. Probably. I'm betting yes.

Now, sign him and don't choke up on going over five years. Give him attainable option years for years six & seven! Or offer a five year extension with a signing bonus to bring up this year's salary.

Santana, Pedro, Ollie & Maine as a top four. Who tops that?

I'M GETTING WASTED TONIGHT!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

And no Fernando!!!

Omar is the man. The Twins got a nice return and Omar kept Pelfrey and F-Mart. What is not to like? Now if we could just get The Duque out of the rotation.....

Hat Tip to Johan for clearly making this go thru.

WE LOVE YOU ALREADY.

Sure do. We sure do....

Good luck with the opening day tickets. Good fucking luck. I'm still a bit pissed I get no preferential treament when it comes to buying them despite my loyalty as a partial season ticket holder!

I still think Omar would have held onto Fernando. He is that good.

I do not think ANYONE can top that four. Really tight.

I feel like I just gave birth!

So true Mike.
I think we open on the road this year so maybe he wont even pitch the home opener. I need a schedule STAT! lol

We should pick a random summer game and have some of the posters from this site meet up and go (those that are local or willing). That would be funtastic.

I'm there everyday Sunday drinking PBRs in the Marina parking lot. Depending on how early I get there, I may be shirtless.

I cannot be held responsible for my actions after 9 PBRs before noon, but the invite is always open nonetheless.

I'm game as long as I'm in the States. I'll drive down from VT. Absolutely.

Gammons & Heyman are reporting the deal. Things are looking up.

I will name my next child, Omar!

If we are being honest here, I don't love the name for your next kid.

Well, that's a pretty 'right' package.

I'm satisfied. Won't be any more until I see the contract.

There'll be no razorblades tonight!

Emad, I know it is a good deal if even you are satisfied.

However, I am fairly certain you will not love the contract.

I concur. Good trade. Keep the best arm we've got (Pelfrey). Keep the best bat we've got (f-mart).

I'd feel a lot better about losing Gomez if we hadn't traded Millege, but I'll take it.

While it's scary to give away good young talent, I try to remind myself that Santana is the premier pitcher in the game, and that I was against signing Pedro for 4 years, and realized subsequently (despite the injuries, his signing turned the franchise around) that when you get a chance to snag a premier pitcher, arguably the best in the game, you gotta do it.

Well, I doubt I'm having one anyway. At worst, I'll use the letter O.

Heyman is reporting that the Mets discussed replacing Humber with Jorge Sosa. How great would that be if the team included Sosa instead and kept Humber? Just sayin'...

Man, get this guy signed and there'll be quite a celebration around here.

5:07 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Holy Shit! Mr. Rollins shut your pie-hole. I wish we could have kept Humber, but the thought of Santana being in the rotation for the next 5 or 6 years is pretty tough to be upset about. Counting Milledge, that's five really good young players traded away this offseason. Win now. If there are no major injuries to key players this team should make it to the NLCS again. No excuses now Willie, win or don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Yes. The Red Sox are deeper and slightly better, but the Mets are not far behind.

Mike, great to hear from you, but please, let us not re-hash Milledge on such a glorious day.

DG, good to see your real name again. If you go with 'O', Oliver perhaps? It has a nice ring.

Humber subbed with Sosa? Please, why did that not go through. Insanity! How has Humber's value dropped that much.

Win now! But later too! Wright, Reyes, F-Mart, Pelfrey...

Still people here! Man, F-Mart better pan out though.

Awesome! I may forgive Omar for giving up Lastings. I never thought this would happen. I'm ecstatic and can't wait for the season to start. That's a good fucking staff with Pelf picking up Duque when he goes down.

Now show him the money and let this be done with.

Omar is OFF THE HOOK! The Mets gave up a lot, but not as much as writers were saying earlier. Buster Olney, I guess the Mets prospects WERE good enough!

How about Omar as a middle name?

Billy Wagner was saying the Mets were 3rd best in the division yesterday on the Mets Hot Stove. I wonder what the hell he thinks NOW!?!?!?!

Smith got duped!
Mets prospects are trash!

Is objectivity so hard? Is it? Why must people assume anything blue and orange is evil and bad?

Dep, please steal some. That way I can drink less.

Oh, and I don't want to hear another frigging WORD on how are the Mets going to replace Tommy Glavines 200 innings!

Classic!!!

18th pick too! Santana + 18th is slightly better than Tom, no?

5:35 PM

Not 18th pick. It's 18, 22 & 33 with those bookends coming for Mr. Not Devastated.

Twins fans will get over the return. Two out of four will amount to something.

Anthony, that is a bold statement. But a true one. Great fucking day.

Pedro, Maine, Ollie, and Johan? Holy shit. I remember hoping I did not have did not have to watch Tracshel pitch when I had tickets to games.

How can I forget the 33rd pick as well. I didn't forget it, just that I forgot it was from Mr. It's worse to lose a leg.

Ossy, consider it done. Never again here. Fernando it is, which I do like better.

The fact that we get to keep talking about Fernando Martinez with the Mets makes me almost as excited. Awesome that we get to watch him grow with the team. It's going to be awfully nice seeing another home grown, young player in left field in 09/10 arrival. If he stays healthy and grows the way it sounds like he will, I think an 09 ETA is realistic. That's what you have to love about today. The Mets just added the best pitcher in baseball/proven veteran, spent dollars wisely on the right player AND kept a young stud who will be a HUGE part of the team in the next 5 years. Really good stuff.

OMAR is THE MAN again.

Mike, I'm not sure I like the idea of my drinking means you drink less. there must be a way to avoid that! ;)

Please. 30 PBRs divided by 2 people = 15 beers.

You taking beers only enhances my chance of living.

Omar didn't blink. Many people (not any of us of course) were willing to just haphazardly throw in Martinez. Ha! Suckers.

2x4, would that surprise anyone?

Ossy, P. Martinez and a F. Martinez jerseys in '08? Interesting and yet bold.

I certainly hope Pedro will come back on a reasonable contract so the Mets can bring back Ollie. But, he is a Boras client and most likely gone to the highest bidder and there will be some big ones out there.

Omar...U DA MAN!!!!! While everyone was running around yelling that we should just 'throw in' THM, he quietly held the bluff and the twinks blinked!

Best trade since Piazza came here. Wonder if Santana will be our 3rd HOFer after big Mike?

Terry Ryan was the GM that orchestrated the Nathan trade. Ryan was also the guy that made Santana the Rule V draftee.

Bill Smith just took over for Ryan the end of last year.

When this news flashed on the wires at around 3pm my first thought was... well, let's just say I was so excited I needed a change of pants.

I have no problem trading the prospects. Remember when the likes of Ryan Thompson and Bill Pulsipher were "untradable?" Yeah, thankfully we didn't make that mistake again.

Omar is a god!

Classic...

Bada, In his defense, Smith was still in the organization and deserves some credit. Also, Ryan does not necessarily scout these guys. Their scouting department is still there I presume with minimal turnover. How could they let them go?

I actually didn't drink tonight despite my promises that I would. I had to get that off my chest.

Omar could be god...

Someone posted something funny elsewhere...They said you know the Mets ripped someone off because no Met fans are complaining.

Mr. Not Devastated vs Santana. I'm waiting for that matchup.

As for s summer game, I might just fly in from Korea and see a game on a weekend. Beats having to wait for former Met farmhands like Scobie to start here.

I still feel like the first pitch to Rollins should hit his head.

Wow, just fucking wow!
Johan Santana is a New York Met!
Without trading Fernando Martinez, that is fucking SWELL!
The trade is deffinitly worth it. Even if Carlos Gomez becomes the next Hanley Ramirez, it's worth it.
The Mets rotation is Johan, Pedro, Maine, Oliver Perez, and EL Duque, with my mom waiting in the wings for when El Duque goes down. Best rotation in the NL East, best in the NL, and one of the best in the major leagues.
ALl you gotta remember about Johan was hit 90 pitch complete game shutout performance against the Mets last summer while NOT having his best stuff, his fastball was in the low 90's. Oh man...

I havn't been this excited since that Delgado trade. That shit was like 3 years ago.

Mike, what's a PBR?
